This is no fault of Waltr it’s simply the way iTunes and iOS interact. And the next time you sync the device, iTunes will delete any content you’ve added with Waltr, because it’s not in your iTunes library. Your iOS device needs to be connected to the computer-you can’t do this with Wi-Fi syncing. And boy, does it fly: in my tests, WALTR transcoded a 2.64-gigabyte MKV file on my 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5 mid-2013 MacBook Air into an iOS-friendly format and sent it over USB to my iPhone 6 in under two. You can also copy items to your iOS device using Waltr on a different Mac from the one you use to sync the device, so if you sync your iPhone with iTunes at home, and you want to add an album from your Mac at work, you can. I raved about WALTR in my review, underscoring how its drag-and-drop simplicity allows just about anyone to bypass the mess that is iTunes. I’ve often found that when I want to add an album to my iPhone before I go out for a walk, iTunes hiccups and takes 15 minutes to sync.

Not only can you add non-iOS compatible files to an iOS device, but it’s a great way to quickly copy an album or a video to your device without doing a full sync. There are many advantages to using Waltr. The developers told me that they’re updating the app to work with older AVI files, which use certain codecs that currently don’t work with the app. While Waltr claims it can convert any video file in compatible formats, it does have issues with some AVI files. You can maintain the original photo’s quality, which is always good, but you can also alter it to save space. It’s a free tool that supports batch conversions, even directly from a plugged-in iPhone.

Cover art for any music transferred using Waltr Pro wasn't transferred and your device shows artwork already downloaded for other titles at random.

I did like this version starring and directed by Ben Stiller. This app is one of the best HEIC converters you can use on a Windows PC. 7 reviews for Softorino, 2.3 stars: The product worked fine until they broke it over 5 months ago. Purchase and download were as easy to use as the product itself. I think I remember liking both good enough but it's been awhile since I read the former or seen the latter. Purchased the universal license so I can use WALTR-pro.

If you want to put an MKV file on your iPad, Waltr converts it to an MV4 file, which, in most cases, is essentially the same as the MKV file, just with a different wrapper. Before I review the movie proper, let me just say that I'm familiar with both the original James Thurber short story and the Danny Kaye feature movie version. …and then drop files onto Waltr’s window to convert them and add them to your iOS device, where you can play them in the native Music and Videos apps. It can even copy high-resolution audio files, but the iOS device is still limited to the bit depth and sample rate that it can play. For example, if you want to copy a FLAC file, drag it onto Waltr’s window, and the app creates an ALAC copy-since conversion to Apple Lossless retains the original quality-and copies it.
